Reinventing Agriculture and Food of the 21st Century
Lecture by Gilles Billen, biogeochemist, Research Director at CNRS - METIS laboratory
Abstract: Agriculture is in crisis. Short-term solutions to increase the productivity of the sector and to ensure international markets, even if it means reducing the constraints imposed by environmental protection, only aggravate the causes of the evil. A slightly more distant view, that of biogeochemistry, allows us to imagine other ways of thinking about tomorrow's agriculture, on a local as well as on a global scale. And reconcile the production of food for 9 billion human beings with respect for the quality of water, air and soil.
