Master 1 internship: Addition of a satellite data visualization module to the urban-sprawl platform

Context

Inria is a research institute in computer science and mathematics. The STEEP team has developed the open-source platform urban-sprawl, which allows to compute and analyze indices related to urban sprawl. These spatialized indices measure the accessibility, dispersion and mix of land use. The data used come from the OpenStreetMap open collaborative platform.

Objective of the internship

The goal of this internship is to define and prototype a new functionality to the platform, in particular the calculation and visualization of satellite observation data such as vegetation index, land cover or light pollution.

The internship will take place in several stages:

• state of the art of freely available multi-spectral satellite images (Sentinel, Lansat, . . . ) and definition of possible visualizations
• the handling of python tools for geoprocessing (rasterio, geopandas, proj, leaflet)
• prototyping of the module allowing to visualize in the platform data from satellite images.
