Digital technology: threat or hope for the environment?

Lecture by Françoise Berthoud, Research Engineer in Computer Science at the CNRS, director and co-founder of the EcoInfo group (created in 2006), recognized expertise on the theme of the environmental impacts of digital technology.

Abstract: Considered as a technological solution to the energy transition and more generally to environmental issues, digital technology has been widely promoted for more than 10 years, by the political and industrial spheres, and even by citizens and researchers themselves. What are the effects on the environment today for what environmental impacts? Isn't it time to open both eyes to a reality that has gone beyond our collective fantasies?
